“Ek is vol draadwerk!” In Afrikaans the word means wire-work. The sentence says: “I am full of wire-work” which translates to: “I am full of nonsense!”
Quite a mouthful! Yet I decided to convert it to something positive. For the last few weeks we have been dealing with the message of the Kingdom in church. The verse from John 16:33 stuck with me:
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world!”
So I got this idea to use the latter part of the verse in an artwork for the hallway.
- Rusted wire
- Side cutters
- Wood board
I started cutting the wire and started forming the letters with the pliers. You have to bend and turn them as you see fit.
After about 20 minutes and sore hands I managed to complete the sentence:
Then I glued the letters onto a wooden strip:
Then I hung it above the frames in the hallway:
There you go! Quick and easy and cheap “draadwerk!” I pass that wall so many times a day and the words remind me that no matter how tough the day is…I can overcome it!
Go on and try it!
